via bus master (beta 3.1.1) + win2k + nero burn = poop

the via drivers dont' work w/ win2k and nero for some reason...anyone else havin this problem or a remedy?

the problem is that the said drivers detect my devices as SCSI, which is not uncommon...but incorrect...when i try to use nero, it simply doesn't work...

i have to uninstall the drivers and use microsoft's crap ide bus master drivers which degrade my performance (substantially apparently according to sandra)...

work around?
 
Download the via 4.29 beta drivers. They get around the SCSI problem. They are several threads in this forum about it.
 
i installed them tho they don't install properly or something...

i checked the drivers and they'er still the microsoft ones...anyway, so this is what i did (and regret)...i went to update the drivers for the secondary ide driver, assuming that i could boot win2k if it didn't work...WRONG

i can't get into win2k and their stupid repair crap doesn't work...which means, i have to reinstall win2k...what a load of sh1t

i checked the viaide.ini file and removed the files it installed, but still - no luck...safe mode doesn't work, and neither does last good configuratino...win2k blows compared to win98 for safe mode...piece of crap

Don't complain about Windows 2000, it works flawlessly for me and all of my friends. W2K is pretty darn stable, you just have to know how to set it up to your hardware.
 
i'm not complaining about the stability of windows when its running, i'm complaining about the fact that it's safe mode doesn't even work if u botch up ide bus master driver configuration regardless of whether it was even on the boot drive or not...

nor does the recovery work..nor does last good system configuration work...i'm complaining about the troubleshooting aspects of win2k

i'm further complaining that every piece of software i run on win2k runs on win98se, and just as good, if not better...

this proclaimed stability of win2k i just don't see it...programs that run flawlessly on win98se don't run as flawless on win2k..then again, they're win98se designed, but nonetheless...

congrats for u and your friends running win2k stably!..i'm proud of u...let's drink to that..

Thats what you write, you did not wrote anything about what was wrong, just that it is plain useless.

Why did you even install beta 3.1.1 when there are 4.29?
 
i wrote the problem in the initial post..

anywya, apprently u've no clue between the differences of the 4-in-1 4.29 and the ide bus master, which is contained in the 4-in-1 and is not version 4.29..that's simply the ver. # of the 4-in-1...

the beta 3.1.1 were installed because they use a better via ide utility that allows manipulation of udma modes, which i need since udma mode 2 (ata 33)seems to screw up my secondary hdd, tho udma mode 1 (ata33) works fine...if i use the normal non-beta drivers, the utilities allow either udma mode 2 or PIO...

drink to that.
 
4.29 worked SPLENDIDLY with my Win2k box.

I had to 'work it' a little though. Initial install didn't go too well, but after I manually updated the Busmaster Drivers (using the .INF file in the 'IDEWin2K' directory that came with the 4.29 Zip file) it went smooth and silky.

Now my TDK 12/10/32 RIPs an Audio CD at 33.1x and Win2k sees it recognizes it as DMA Mode (Instead of PIO Mode 2 with the 4.28).

I loves it.
 
Ive had the same problems as you nortexoid


the software that omes with my plextor works perfetly but as soon as i install nero iut wont work. I dunno, I guess I can wait until sp2 from mirosoft. But they better hurry up!!!
