VIA-based system freezes after screensaver activates...

I just found this out w/ my P3V4X system.
It freezes after the screensaver goes on a couple of minutes...
I don't know what's causing this.
I put on VIA 4in1 v4.31, same result.
OS is Win98SE, 128MB, P3-450, 10gb
I'm suspecting it's the HDD but am not sure.

Anybody???

It might be the power saving features activating shortly after the screensaver.

This was a problem for me with the same board (it wouldn't wake up), so I just disabled all of them.

I went to Display Properties, clicked on the Screen Saver tab, clicked on Settings, and disabled ALL of the power saving features (set them to Never). It may just be one of them that caused the problem, but I never took the time to find out if that was the case.

I would recommend disabling them all at first to see if that fixes your problem, and if it does you can then narrow it down by the process of elimination.

Why not do something productive with that idle time? Join TeAm AnandTech! Displaying a screen saver is a waste of cpu resources. 🙂
