Via and SB live

Right sorry for the long post bur here goes.....

i used to have a MSI 6330 pro2 MB and it suffered the SDS "suddon death syndrome". But i also had a SB live 1024 Sound card and removed it from the MB as i saw that SB and Via had problems but it never solved the problem of me loosing the Video feed from the monitor, "which was part of the MSI pro2 MB problems well documented".

so for a long time and 3dfx or vcd encoding and some other things would make the Video dissapear and it wouldnt let me reset the button didnt work, and the temps were always fine,,, the only way to shut down was hold in the on/off switch.

to try to narrow down the problem i removed the SB live and the promise controller. never fixed the problem and one day the MB croaked.

right so what i want to know now that i have a gigabyte GA - 7VTX MB with VIA KT266 Chipset, is can i now put back the SB live as i got a surround sound for it a while back and my onboard sound wont support the right hand side "u know what i mean" and if i put it back will it be ok or do i need to know anything else like what drivers to use? "also i didnt like the limewire bit so never installed windows XP did a good job of managing the speakers and all the effects were annoying"

Am i making sense ?
Is it worth doing ?
is the new MB anygood?
am i mad????

many thanks for your assistance

1 small thing:

Before u install the SB on your MB u must disable not only in the BIOS but also by jumper setting the onboard audio... or probably u will end like my first hand experience at reboot cycle galore.

you shouldnt have any problems with it.... but is that motherboard a KT266 chipset, or a KT266A chipset? the KT266 was a nightmare, and the KT266A is wonderful

just load the latest VIA 4in1 drivers no matter what!
