Did a search and didn't see anything.

This is kinda BIG. Intel and Via have settled ALL there lawsuits againt each other.

Via and Intel make up

So I guess VIA will be able to make P4 chipsets now, so more BIG board makers will use them and improve on them even more. And maybe VIA will move their C3 chips to the P4 bus, kinda like they are useing a P3 bus and socket setting now.

Either way it is good for both.

Maybe not now, but they were not putting much money into the P4 chipsets as they knew OEMs and big board makers would not use them until Intel said it was OK. Now they have the green light, and are supposed to have a Dual Ch P4 chipset coiming out soon.

But more competition is always good.

As long as you don't throw in ANOTHER wildcard like a SBLIVE! card, Via chipsets are great.

My FTP server uses a Shuttle AK35GTR (KT266A chipset) and it's stable as a rock. I reboot it....whenever..usually after a antivirus or Windoze update. Of course, it has no sound card in it either. :p

Via has a history of building faulty chipsets... should wait til the A revision comes out.

And Intel has had bad chipsets also. In fact if not for VIA, Intel would have been really hurt during the P3 days

The i815 chipset was pretty good once you worked around the potential IRQ issues - but that may have been more motherboard-specific.

The 512MB max RAM limit was the only real problem with the 815.

Wel that and I was speaking on the chipsset that came before the 815. The one that had Rambus but also had a convertor that was SUPPOSED to make it run Sdram. Remember had they had the re-calls and VIA steeped in with their early 694 chipset and saved Intels AZZ's.

The 815 was not that bad, but still left a lot of room for potential.

But either way with VIA in the P4 business full steam now, it will only make things better. Think how slow and how much a Intel CPU would be now if not for AMD putting pressure on them.
