I installed the latest drivers for my AC97 via audio on my EPOX 8k7a under WinXP and after I did this, my audio stopped working :(
What are the latest drivers for the VIA AC97 audio?

is there an error or exclamation mark next to your audi hardware in device manager?

are you sure that it's not simply muted or something?

i really don't know what the newest drivers are

i might suggest checking out the epox site though and looking for troubleshooting for FAQ's.

did you get the drivers from epox or from somewhere else?

on board audio is suck, spend $10 at a local computer show for a cheap but good CMI based card. The onboard audio in my msi board had a tendency to go from stereo to mono for no reason, the sound quality is also suck on both my msi and shuttle boards. After moving to a santa cruz sound card all i can say is that THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE in sound quality.:D

I know that real sound cards are much better, but I don't want to stop using this ac97 thing. I feel bad for it.

YAY! someone else with the problem!

It appears to be a rather common issue between Via's AC97 and WinXP.

None of VIA's drivers worked for me, I went thru a big list of other manufacturers using onboard AC97, and the one that finally worked was the 'Avance AC97'
That being ALI, I believe.

Sound quality I haven't had a problem with - I have [modesty] excellent hearing [/modesty] and havent had to worry about pops clicks whistles buzzes etc...
It goes thru my home stereo system which has it's own CD player - no noticeable difference in sound quality between mp3s and the cds I ripped them from...

Granted i'm not an audiophile or anything, but i'm, quite happy with it.

Everyone seems to be saying "OMG NO ONBOARD AUDIO EEEK"... i'm not so sure.
Maybe back in the day when it used to pinch system memory like low-end all-in-one mainboard solutions tend to, but nowadays it's much of a muchness - kinda like comparing the sound quality between an SB16 and an SBPRO.

I hope you get your driver problem sorted - take comfort in the knowledge that others have had, and resolved, the same problem ;)

Artis do a CMI Based card for $10 that has SPDIF and 4 Channel Output!

I hate to make this kind of suggestion but.....do Microsoft have an updated device driver at windows update that has been certified for Windows XP?....
