When I boot this pc, that I just put together: Epox 8kta3, AMD T/bird 1gig, w98/se, etc., I get this message: Windows has found an audio device, etc., I put in the 4 in 1 cd/rom, and get this message: VIA ac97 audio chipset is NOT enabled on this system. I went into the bios, the sound IS enabled. In fact, the MB is set for all defaults.

Can you help me with this one?

Thank you for your time.

There are separate drivers for the AC97 sound that you have to download separately from the VIA website (or get from the CD that came with your MB), and by installing those it should fix the problem, methinks.

There are two places you have to enable AC97 sound on this board.

One is under Advanced Chipset, I believe, and the other is under Integrated Peripherals.

i *think* on the 8kta+ i used to have there was also a jumper on the motherboard to enable/disable onboard sound. check in the manual if this applies to you...

There is no such jumper on the 8KTA3.
