I have been a BX chipset guy for years and years...my new motherboard: ASUS TUV4X to run my Tualatin has a VIA 694T chipset.

What is the process to get XP Pro up and running right?

My additions will be:
Tekram 390F -> running Plextor CDROM, Plextor CDRW, Pioneer DVD, PCMCIA device

Radeon 8500 128MB

MX300 sound

Linksys LNE100TX nic or the SIIG NIC/FireWire/USB2.0

Epson 880 color USB

Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000

Palm USB Cradle

Serial UPS

Serial Modem

PS/2 Keyboard/mouse

LS120 drive

Ultra 100 IBM GXP 60 drive

Maybe a secone Ultra 100 drive.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking but it shouldn't be a problem to run XP on your hardware.

XP CDrom is bootable, set your BIOS to boot from CDrom first, inserted CDrom in drive, reboot and you're off. You can format your drive during the install process.

After XP is installed you should go to Windows Update and install all the Critical ones, at least. XP has buttloads of drivers built-in. It will probably install all your hardware/peripherals during the OS install. Check Device Manager afterwards, install drivers for things that show up with the yellow question mark or the red exclamation point or things like vidcard drivers that may be more up to date than what's built-in to Windows.

After all your updates and drivers are installed you can tweak the GUI and whatever else you want.

Unless something weird happens you should be fine.

Thanks, got sort of most of the answer I was looking for in my hardware thread....I need to get the Hyperion 4in1's and install them after the O/S.

That's about the only 'extra' step....also tweaks are a lot different, but I will get up and running first and then start expanding my sandbox 🙂
