I just did another fresh reinstall of Win2k, and went ahead and installed the latest 4in1s. But, I seem to be getting intermittent CPU spikes.. every now and then (always when opening up My Computer tho), CPU usage jumps to 100%.. I'm thinking it might be due to the 4in1s, but not sure.. even tho I didn't have this problem before I formatted (for other reasons).
would it be safe to just uninstall the 4in1s and see how it goes?

Yes, you need the 4 in 1's. Those are CHIPSET drivers that allow the OS to communicate with the mobo and the north/south bridges. You need them. Don't uninstall them.
