Im setting up an Aopen AX37+ mobo now (Pro266 VIA - INTEL CPU), and once again go thru the usual uncertainties. ALL later Nvidia driver packages come with "Vgartd.vxd". The GART, or graphics address reallocation table driver that puts all necessary video related memory in RAM in one nice easy to get to contiguous clump, is ALSO installed by VIA 4 in 1 AGP(VIAGart.vxd). However, here we can choose the souped up (turbo) version of the drivers or the reg. (normal) coded. Obviously, people have been doing both simultaneously for quite a time (albeit with some probs) so they must coexist.
So the question is, would deleting the Nvidia Gart first be better? Do you really need the ViaGart or are GARTs generic - working to whatever chipset is being used. Does the VIAGart ignore the NVidia GART? If they are not "generic", this implies thatNvidia Gart only works on Intel chipsets.
This time I'll look to see in sys files if the VIA Gart install removes the NVidia Gart (I doubt it)
Any "non guess" thots here?
Then theres the IDE busmaster 4 in 1 driver questions.
I have Promise ATA100 on board, I load Promise drivers. Why load VIA? Promise is an independent controller to the mobo.
I think I will install NO VIA this time and see what happens: I dont need .inf because I dont run ACPI and I dont need IRQ routing because my BIOS chip does that just fine (ESCD), in conjunction w/windows pnp. (Altho VIA calls it IRQ "SEQUENCING"
