VIA 4in1 drivers and WinXP

I just set up my new system with a K7V Dragon Plus and WinXP. I'm having trouble installing things like the VIA 4in1 drivers from the Soyo CD. The audio drivers for the onboard sound didn't seem to work either. In fact, since I started trying to install these things, WinXP Pro has been VERY unstable. Very much less stable than Win2k Pro. Should the CD work, or do I have to download updates from the internet?

Thanks!

Install the 4in1 drivers first.

When you install the Via 4 in 1 4.35 drivers it will only install the INF files in XP,then I installed the AGP 4.10 driver afterwards I had no problems.

<< What is this AGP 4.10 driver some people refer to? Do I need it (system profile in sig)? >>

It`s the latest Via AGP driver which offers better AGP performance for XP ,yes it`s worth installing in my opinion for XP OS.

<< If so, and if you use Win9X, Win2K or WinXP, please download and install this latest AGP driver (released 23 Nov 01). No doubt this will be incorporated into the next 4in1 driver pack, but for now it is available for separate download.

AGP410 Driver

Information from the release document about this driver:

Provides an enhanced AGP driver for Windows XP.
Fixes some information strings to pass some driver verification tools published by 3rd party companies.
Supports the AGP function in VIA P4X series North Bridge Chips.
Certified for Windows XP in the INF file.

Well, I installed updated VIA drivers, and I haven't had stability problems, but I'm still not sure what the 4-in-1 drivers are supposed to do. :) I need to read more about them.

They are used for supporting chipset features in Operating Systems, such as Windows 98/ME and such. They tailor the OS to use the specific features of the IDE bus, and other integrated component. However, nowadays, new OSes, ie: XP have support for the chipset built in, so there's no need for the 4in1s.
