VIA 4-in-1's, AMD AGP miniport driver... or both?

Hello,

I have a motherboard with a VIA northbridge and an AMD-761 southbridge.

Because of this mix, I have performed the following in the past on a fresh XP install:

1) Install VIA 4-n-1's, omit AGP patch checkmark.
2) Install AMD's AGP Miniport driver.

Should I be doing only a 4-in-1 installation, allowing the AGP check box to be checked, or should I only be doing the AMD AGP miniport driver install, or both?

Thanks for your insights.

I would look at your mobo vendors' site or AMD.com for the latest drivers. I don't think you want to run the 4-in1's from VIA.

I think you mean AMD 761 Northbridge & VIA Southbridge, the correct way of installing drivers on these hybrid chipsets is quite simple,

Install the AMD Miniport AGP driver, you can install the VIA 4- in -1 drivers(now called Hyperion ,4.47 is latest),but DO NOT INSTALL the VIA AGP driver that`s included in the 4 in 1 driver pack.

Visit the viaarena.com site, download and read the blurb about installing VIA Hyperion 4 in 1 Drivers.

If you just select 'Quick Install', the installer will load ONLY THE APPROPRIATE DRIVERS for XP.

If you select 'Normal Install', ONLY THE APPROPRIATE DRIVERS for XP will be checked. Don't check anything unless you want to experiment.

Page 2 shows which drivers are recommended for several Windows OSs. If you've already loaded a wrong driver, this will help you understand which to remove.

Hope this helps!
