Why do you think AMD has been delaying VI cards?

Post your zany theories and no fighting please!

My theory is that they want to use free sync monitors in a major marketing push with their enthusiast levels cards.

Very much probably by two things: HBM are not ready as we think it is, and GPUs are made on other 28nm process, so this causes the delay.

For them to be delayed there had to have been a release date announced, and that date came and went. So what was that date?

AMD is perpetually late in launching their products, for whatever reasons. They were touting the availability of their ARM Server SoC dev boards by end of March, early April 2014 and that didn't actually happen until late August-September even then in apparently limited supply. The GPU division was actually pretty good about updating product lines all the way through to Tahiti, though.

If I had to guess on the GPU stuff specifically I'd say cash flow issues such as less employees involved and delaying milestones that require large cash expenditures combined with the challenges of porting all their GPU design know-how from TSMC to GF production process (assuming they are using GF for this upcoming GPU).
