My girlfriend and I got into a dispute about the pronounciation of our favorite UNIX editor.

Settle our argument, please. :)

It's pronounced "Does it really matter"

it's like the tom-eh-toe/tom-arr-toe arguement

The authoritative answer is "vee-eye", as clarified in Chapter 1, page 3 of O'Reilly's "Learning the vi Editor".

First of all, use emacs, ditching that pathetic piece of junk vee-eye. Then, post a poll on how to pronounce emacs. :D

Well, we were on a long car trip and so we got talking about how we learned UNIX and then I started talking about "vye" because everyone in my workplace pronounces it that way.

So yes, then we got into this argument.

It's alright, she's right about everything 97% of the time anyway. There's no particular reason that this should've been one of my 3%.

I'm a Microsoft guy. Open source is pathetic. (No intent of starting a flame war =p)
