VHS to VHS copying

I am having trouble recording a VHS tape through another VHS tape. I have two VCRs hooked up to the television. I have the antenna from the house coming ito VCR1s input and VCR1s output going into VCR2s input and then VCR2s output going into the television. Everything plays fine. For some reason whenever I record it is recording what is on the television rather than what VCR1 is playing. Could someone please offer me some assistane.
 
Check you "input" selection on the recording deck. You didn't mention which input you were using, but I'm assuming you're using the A/V jacks.

If you're using the RF connectors, switch to the A/V jacks, it'll give you much better quality, and the copy will be in stereo (if the original was).

I have them connected using the cable wire connectors. I am not so much concerned with quality right now as I am to get this thing working. Please some help.
 
Run VCR1 main output (antenna) to television, run secondary (usually RF jacks on back of VCR) output to VCR2. Don't bother connecting VCR2 to tv. That way VCR1 always controls what is being output to tv, not VCR2. And, of course, that same output will go to VCR2.
 
Use all RCA jacks or all S-Video links for the connections, preferably insulated cords. Never use the 75-ohm connectors (single round core) to do the transfers. The latter uses signal translation which greatly diminished the signal strength.
 
make sure you have the source vcr and destination vcr correct. if you are playing vcr1 and trying to record on vcr2. make sure on vcr2 it is selecting like Line 1 or something that is reflecting from vcr1.
