VHS to DVD

My grandfather is trying to transfer all of his old VHS (there's a lot of them) to DVDs. What would be the best software/pc components for this?

The HIGHLY TECHNICAL forum is not for purchase advice.

Personally, I would recommend a stand-alone DVD recorder, preferably with hard-drive built-in, and maybe built-in VCR, if there's that much to do. It will typically do a better job, with less fuss than most pc hardware combinations. If he wants fancy DVD menus, then he can further edit the resulting DVD on a PC.

This is NOT Highly Technical. Read the first and stickified post by the Mods on the first page of this forum.

Edit: I would suggest posting this in Video.
