VHD as backup volume?

I created a vhd on a secondary drive and told win7 to perform backups using the vhd volume. Is there any reason not to do this?

How does one get a vhd to perm. attach? I want to schedule backup to perform on a reg. basis, but if the directory doesn't exist @ the time...

I don't see why you need to backup to a VHD. If your backup is already on a secondary HDD, why not just use the simple way of creating a system image using Windows Backup? If your secondary HDD is unplugged, then the backup won't be able to run since there are no other drives it can save to.
