VGN-SZ340 LCD Problem

I am having problems with one of my laptops and I eliminated to two possible causes. Maybe you guys can assist little more. I am having brightness issues and I can see outline of shape but looks like lamp isnt working. There are two cause I believe:
1. LCD itslef
2. Inverter

Silly question, but have you tried the FN + brightness controls?

It's possible that the backlight bulb failed.

3. Loose connection or worn, grounded display unit wiring.

Had the same problem on a Toshiba a couple of weeks ago. Just for jollies I took the display unit apart and reseated the connectors on the inverter and panel and removed the LCD panel. That fixed unit. Still don't know what caused it.
