VGA vs DVI ?

How much better is DVI compared to VGA ? My monitor is a rather modest Dell 1704FPV.

I don't play games and the main use of my PC is for Photoshop.

Thanks !

if your monitor has a DVI input, your PC has a DVI output and you have an extra DVI cable lying around, there's no reason not to use it. DVI is simply newer and better: that is digital, though I doubt you'll see significant or any improvement on a small sized LCD, I'm guessing differences between VGA and DVI get more apparent on bigger monitors with high resolutions.

It looks I'll have a DVI output and a VGA output. Will probably put one my smallest screen on the VGA and the larger on the DVI.

If you have an LCD, use the DVI. Honestly, I can't tell a difference, but I really haven't been looking that closely (the picture's gorgeous on a 2407  ).

With a CRT monitor, your VGA card would take the digital vid signal, convert it to VGA, and send it thru the VGA cable to your monitor's analog input (which the CRT can directly use).

If you hook up an LCD via VGA, you're converting digital to analog, sending the signal, and having the LCD reconvert it back to a digital (LCD's are digital based).

If you've got DVI capability on both your monitor and vid card, slap a DVI cable on there for a direct digital to digital transfer.

Theoretically, a DVI connection would be best. Subjectively, I can't tell, really...
