VGA to DVI

I've got another question about LCD Tvs. Currently my laptop has a Radeon Mobility X700 with a VGA output. If I buy an LCD TV, however, it is only going to have DVI output. Will a simple adapter from VGA-DVI work or will I need to invest in one of those $$$ converters?

You need a converter... not sure they make these but probably do.

They don't make VGA->DVI adapters.... the DVI->VGA adapters only work on DVI outputs that have the analog pins. It's basically just taking those DVI analog pins and sending them out the VGA pins. It's all analog to analog, no electronics inside. Your LCD TV probably only has digital pins on it's DVI connector so it doesn't have any idea how to use analog.

You'd be much better off getting some VGA to Component breakout cable... I'd imagine it's probably cheapier than any VGA->DVI (A to D) converter.
