So you're looking for a standalone unit that isn't associated with any computer?

I can't think of any such thing off hand. Howver, most cards and even some onboard video support composite out directly.

Oh yeah, duh... I actually had a device that did this a couple years ago and recently sold it. It was a Viewsonic VB50HRTV that converted composite, s-video, and tv via coax to vga for a monitor. It also had a vga passthrough so you could switch between the inputs and the computer output.

It was kind of expensive at $150, but it got the job done and I didn't have to lug a tv to school that first year.

I'm not sure if there are better devices now, but that one worked prettly well for me.

Yeah, I am familar with those, but ShadowBlade is asking for VGA to compsite while those work the other way around.

I know what she asked for, but it sounds like what she wants to do is hook up a monitor as an output device for a DVD player, which is what this thing would do.

She didn't mention a computer anywhere, so I'm assuming the monitor is the output device.

EDIT: ShadowBlade, do I have it right that you want to hook up various HT components to your monitor as a display, or do you need to input a VGA signal and change it to composite output for a display that takes that input?
