VGA to Component adapters

Currently, I'm having trouble with my HTPC sending video out via component to my HDTV. Although my TV has HDMI, my A/V switcher does not, so I would rather use component instead of DVI to HDMI.

The trouble is that since I have upgraded to Vista from MCE 2005, nvidia's forceware driver will not force TV detection with my card (gigabyte geforce 6600) via the TV out. (though this isn't a problem with Vista drivers, I was having the same trouble with the latest drivers on XP as well).

So, after hours of unsuccessfully attempting to remedy the situation and find workarounds for nvidias drivers, I was thinking I might purchase a VGA to Component adapter (or DVI to component, I don't care which). I've never used them, so I was wondering if they will work for 1920x1080, and most of all, be detected as a moniter. I'm looking for the most trouble free solution, and its much cheaper to get this than to get an HDMI A/V switcher.

Any thoughts?

i dont get what you're saying about not using dvi to hdmi...cant you just use that from your comp to the tv, then just get the sound using analog/digital from your comp to your receiver or speakers?

I have no idea what this adaptor might cost you, but I'd suggest not spending more money on an older card like the 6600 and upgrading to a newer generation card with component output. For an HTPC, the sweet spot for cards is either a 2600pro ($70-$90AR) or an 8600 (slightly more).
