I've been doing a bit of monitor shopping lately, and I noticed that a lot of the higher end models have BNC connectors. Since my video card only has a VGA and a DVI connector, is there any beneift to getting a monitor that supports BNC and getting a VGA to BNC cable? It would seem that since the output is VGA, it really wouldn't make a difference what was on the other end.

Proper BNC cables have superior shielding over standard 15-pin cables. However, you lose the monitor plug&play data connection, so you'll need to have a monitor "driver" (description file, actually) installed.

The biggest benefit to those monitors in my experience is they generally support both BNC and VGA connections. I use the BNC for my main PC, which allows me to quickly connect another PC I'm working on using the VGA connector. That way I don't have to lug another monitor into my workspace, and I can switch between the 2 PC's with a button. As far as PQ differences, maybe with better cables than I got, but looks pretty much the same to me. Configuring your display is slightly more involved using BNC.

I noticed slightly better colours and improved brightness when I changed from VGA to BNC. BNC is less suspeptible to noise so the signal from your video card to your monitor will be better. But it's not worth the time or money in my opinion.

I use a BNC cable and got a slight improvement in picture quality; the BNC cable eliminated a slight ghost image I was seeing. Don't expect a major difference, but if you want the best picture possible, use a BNC cable.
