VGA Switch-box question

I just had a quick question regarding the use of a generic VGA switch box (a simple two-plugs-in-one-plug-out setup with a manual dial). I am hoping to setup my Dreamcast with its VGA adapter and my regular computer (running an 8500 as the video card) to this box in order to have the ability to quickly switch between sources. Is there a risk of either component becoming damaged from just switching over when the units are powered up? I can't really afford a Belkin (or similar) box right now and I don't need keyboard or mouse connections as Dreamcast has its own controllers and inputs.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

if the switch is designed to be switched "hot" then you shouldn't have a problem. i use this IOGear KVM switch and think it would work fine for what you want. found it onsale at fry's for appox $30.
tap the scroll lock key a couple times and it goes between video inputs.
good luck
