Is this easy to install? This only cools the core (not the memory) correct? I have a 9700 Pro and was wondering if it is recommended.

Thanks!

Very easy to install, just do not over-tighten it. I'm using one on a 9800 Pro and love it.

I'm not much for the GPU/Memory cooling in one block of metal...it seems to me that just heats everything up even more.

Yes.

The newer versions also "cool" the RAM, although, like I said, I prefer individual RAMsinks.

This is still great for 9800's, I have one, and this is 7$ cheaper than what I payed

I agree with SirSnipe on that. I've had one on my Radeon 9800 for a while now and it is quite a bit cooler (and quieter). For those asking, it does only cool the GPU. Unless they changed something that I don't know about.

This thing definitely works! SVC offers it at the absolute lowest price (shipping added) you will find. Not a real hard install but getting your old heatsink off any card can be rough since you have very small things to remove (small plastic pins that hold heatsink in place.)

The rev. 3 VGA Silencer heatsink block is huge. The area that comes in contact with your GPU is not. There is no RAM cooling (that area of the heatsink is shaped so as to leave like a half inch area above ram.) The backplate fits great but there is a noticeable gap between the top of the air opening that vents out the back of a PCI slot and the inside of case (like 3/16th of an inch that allows for hot air to blow inside your case not out.)
