VGA Silencer installation question

So after picking up the VGA silencer today, I read a bit about how you could crack your GPU and kill your card by screwing it in too tightly. I've got it on without screwing it in too much... but now I'm a little worried, could it not be tight enough and not provide enough contact with the GPU? Any help appreciated.

Is overclockability any indication that it's on right? I was running ATI tool and I was able to hit around 440/360 core/mem. If it wasn't making good contact it should have problems displaying right? I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to this stuff.

The installation manual says tighten it up until the clip touches the rubber washer. Don't do that as quiet a lot of peoples clips broke well before that (mine did). I just got the the Rev. 3 and it has two rubber washers on each screw (only one for Rev. 1 & 2). If you have a Rev. 1 or 2 tighten the screws until there is about 3mm space between the clip and the rubber washer.
