I thought it was obvious that overclocking would yield higher scores.

What's not obvious, though, is whether a VGA Silencer will yield a higher OC than the stock HSF, so you're taking your chances there. At the very least, though, the Silencer should hopefully make your system slightly quieter and cooler.

I think I missed a few posts somewhere. Why did you get rid of that awesome 5900XT, that thing was untouchable!</sarcasm>

What happened to the 5900XT? Why did you buy a 9800 pro when you had a 5900XT? Jesus. Go outside.

i didn't know that vga silencers fit on 9800xt's. but, if they do, i'd assume the overclock would be a lot less valuable than that of the 9800pro. the cores are the same, the only difference is the memory and pipelines. maybe you should invest in ramsinks, that would definitely give you a boost in memory performance.

apparently he has a 9800xt too now.

1. 5900xt
2. 9800pro flashed to xt
3. 9800xt

This guys is like playing the sims with computer parts. Just sitting at his computer dreaming of all the stuff he could have.

if it is a "real" XT, the VGA Silencer Rev3 doesn't fit; it DOES fit the 9800Pro 256/256>xt and is - IMO - MANDITORY just to keep your GPU well below 80 C. ;)

I don't bother to O/C my "XT"; the 0verdrive automatically sets it's O/C according to core temps. mine scores ~6400 inb 3d-'03.

He has a MSI RX9800 Pro with 128MB of RAM not an XT he just likes to say he has an XT because it has a R360 core.

then he SHOULD put a VGA Silencer on it!

Great for GPU temps as it exhausts the hot air OUT of the case. If you WANT to o/c, it will give the most benefit for a 9800p. :)

And he can flash ANY r360 into a (limited) "xt" (lite - w/o thermal diode or extra ram) and possible still o/c it.

Dude, you have issues. Stop worrying so much whether you score 6195 on 3dmark03, or 6236 or 6400... It's not a competition, you're wasting your time, and you're worrying about something that makes no difference whatsoever.

It's obvious that you are young and competitive, but give it a rest already!

however, to answer his question . . . 1)<< if i get a VGA silencer and overclock more would it up my score?>>
A= Yes!

2)<< is it worth it to buy one?>>
A=Yes! if you O/C, it is important to keep your card cool

AFTER you answer the question, you can critize the poster's motives. :p
(i.e. <<It's not a competition, you're wasting your time, and you're worrying about something that makes no difference whatsoever>>)

Great, gonna have to pick one up as the stock cooler is a POS. Already OCed it to 400/360 though and looking to get up to XT speeds just w/o the 256mb
