VGA or DVI on Dell 2209WA E-IPS?

Hi guys! I ended up buying this nice ips lcd. I have it hooked up with DVI now, but I learned I can not get 75 Hz without VGA. But I heard VGA is older and has worse image quality, so which is best?

I'm thinking maybe there's a reason only a VGA-cable was bundled with the monitor.

Thank you.

Edit: I have a 9800gt if that helps

why do ask when you could just test it for yourself? really you could have already had your answer before anyone even replied to your thread.

that being said dvi usually provides a crisper image but every monitor is different. on my 22 inch Acer I can clearly see the difference as the text as a small halo around it while using vga. on my 23 inch Acer I cant really notice as much difference but dvi still looks better.

I'm not sure where you heard that you have to use VGA to set the refresh rate to 75Hz. I had mine set to 1680x1050 75Hz over DVI on my old 9800GTX (forced through NVidia control panel).

DVI is digital and VGA is analog. Generally speaking, DVI gives a clearer picture (less fuzzy in my experiences) and removes the need for the screen to auto adjust in certain situations (or perhaps it's that the auto adjust is handled automatically?).

Yes, I see that I've been a humongous noob, sorry about that. I tried both and they looked the same, but in the end I managed 75hz on DVI only. Couldn't force it with VGA, got some strange isssues.

But... will it hurt the monitor if I run at 75 Hz? I mean, why didn't they just make it an option from the get go? And I've also heard that the DVI has a limit of 60 Hz, so I'm essentially "overclocking" the DVI, aren't I? Is that really ok?

Oh noes, pls don't hurt your monitor :)

Many LCD monitors will accept a 75Hz signal, but only display at 60Hz (dropping every fifth frame). Compatibility feature?
