VGA Heatsink Roundup @ legionhardware

Its too bad the V-1's are pretty impractical.

The Accelero X2 looks to be the winner out of the "normal" coolers. I wish the hot air went out the back of the case. Thats the problem with these aftermarket coolers for me, none do that. 🙁
 
Yep- I have the TT Big Typhoon on my cpu and not sure if the V1 ultra would fit from back of vid card to the Big T. And if it did would the airflow be restricted way too much? Impressive #'s though.

I'm kind of bummed the new Zalman VF900 only beat the VF700 by 1 degree.
 
NICE! That's exactly what I wanted to see - a big roundup of all of them. As expected, the VF900 does a degree or two better than the VF700, exactly as it should: it's something like 2/3 the weight but is a smarter design due to heatpipes. Meanwhile the Accelero puts on a good show.

Regarding the Thermalright V1, I've heard it's excellent but the problem is that with an 80mm fan on it (even at low speeds), it's the loudest VGA cooler of the bunch, and the bulk of us go to aftermarket cooling both to drop temps and to cut noise as much as possible.
 
I've been using the V1-ultra on my 7800GT for quite a while now. It is no louder than the vf700 at full throttle, and hooked up with a fan controller makes it very quiet at idle. Also, you can put another 80mm fan on the other side for extra cooling. I have a nexus fan doing that job. I'm looking forward to getting my stepup 7900gt here soon to see how high I can clock it.
 
what the hell?!

7800 gtx full load on standard cooling is in the 50s?!
what kinda gtx were they using?!

when i had mine, stand cooling reached mid 80s
temp reached up to low 60s when i switched to nv silencer

fear definitely stresses the card much more than other programs do
 
I think it's because they were using 3DMark06 instead of real game or something like Real-Time High-Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting demo.
I remember using 3DMark to measure my O/C - only to discover that the same setting would cause artifacts while gaming

EDIT: dissapointed after reading the review, looks very rushed, at best.

They were probably using an open testbed

How far do the fins and fan come out from the back of the video card? Could you measure that for me? Not sure if the fan will clear my CPU cooler.

ya rly, that has got to be teh best damn stock cooler on the planet 😉

My vf700-cu dropped my idle 10'C, 62 down to 52'C (at the height of summer), and my load from ~87'C to 62'C on my 6600GT (and i had reapplied the stock hsf with AS5 myself)...
