VGA-DVI converter

I have an x800 xt but it doesnt have dual dvi. i want to run a 2001fp and 2005fpw for dual montitors it but will one have to suffer from a crappy vga signal?

both of these monitors run at high resolutions so i want to stay away from using the analog vga signal if at all possible.

so hence the question of whether or not the vga-dvi adapter exists, do they? if they do, how is the quality?? thanks!!

nope. gotta get a dual dvi card.

they go the other way only because the dvi plug has the vga pics in it also.

Sorry, but there would be no point to doing it. If such a thing existed it would be a waste of money, as it'd only be taking the inferior VGA signal and making it go through the DVI cable, which means you're still left wtih an inferior signal.

I'm guessing those $300 options are video processors that also enhance the signal, otherwise thats a huge rip-off.

aww crap 🙁

so how bad is the vga one going to be compared to the dvi? would the vga be good enough to run dvd movies at least?

i guess i'll keep the dvi one for gaming...

does anyone have any personal experiences?

Well, I recently let a friend borrow the DVI cable to see if he noticed much difference between it and VGA on his monitor. I have my 2001 hooked up through DVI and my 2005 hooked up through VGA. Don't notice too much of a difference, although it does look a little less sharp. I watched Sky Captain on the 2005 today and it looked fine to me. Not sure how the 2001 would fare with VGA versus DVI though.

VGA isn't that much worse than DVI from what I can tell, and also, certain monitors are more affected by it than others it seems to me. The 2005 seems to do alright with it.

Hope that helps.

I personally wouldn't run a big LCD panel over VGA for Windows/Text apps at all. I have a 2005FPW and the difference is pretty clear. However, I do have my HDTV tuner hooked up over VGA (separate input), and it's not bad, although I'll probably still get the DVI card in the future for it. For DVD's and perhaps games, VGA will probably be fine if it's all you have. But if you plan to use that second monitor over VGA for stuff like text...I'd recommend against it.

oh so you would be in my situation! nice to hear your input

i currently have the 2001fp in dvi and the 2005fpw in question possibly coming

from what synthdude said...text sucks apparently

how does text compare to you in their native resolutions darksword?

Text does seem a bit blurrier, but to be honest I can't tell much difference in text between the 2001 and the 2005, so it might be that the 2005 is just a better panel for text. I don't use cleartype, so I don't know how that fairs (text has always seemed plenty sharp to me on LCDs).

I played around a bit with different things on each screen (IM program, browser). While it really doesn't look much different, it seems like my eyes need to focus more when looking at text on the 2005 with the VGA than on the 2001 with DVI. I might play around a bit and change cables to see how much difference it makes between the two.
