I have A BFG 6800 OC set to lowest speed with expertool...much quieter this way and it is still stable with an o/c

My P180 has a vga duct..I bought a Zalman 80mmx15mm fan...should it blow air on the videocard or suck air out

Thanks

Do you actually notice a difference? The SPCR guys were right.. the duct totally makes the fan noise echo.. even with the small zalman at 5v :(

I am not getting echoing(what I seem to hear is more air movement noise..is this the echoing...)...but after switching some fans and setting up the VGA duct to suck air out..temps are better

I have 2 120mmx25 Coolermaster fans in rear and top...quieter and they move more air than Antec tricools on low...moved the tricool to HDD and set to medium...for noise this is very good

I think the videocard temps are unchanged....may just dump the vga duct..crap bought the stupid and now will have no use for it....but did not want to pay shipping on 1 fan later

The card temps seem unchanged or .5C lower...but I will switch fan orientation....and recheck

my hdd do seem to be 1-2C warmer....I 2 HDD in upper cage and the OCZ "special" vga/hdd 4pin molex cable(pretty thick) lying on one hard drive this may impede air flow enough to be an issue

Ah, I see. Putting a 120mm coolermaster LED fan in the front at 5v (in front of the hard drives) has brought my cpu/hdd/videocard temps down quite a bit, though oddly my case temps are about the same. It's really hot here so my case is about 35c, though my motherboard reads tempreatures way too highly.

I'm using a Pentium 4 3ghz (non presscot) and my cpu temp is never below 50, and gets near 70 under load using an XP-120. It's so horridly innacurate that I have no idea what the real temperature is. :p

The coolermasters are pretty great for the price, but they do buzz when using a PWM fan control, so I'm using a zalman fanmate (just the adapter not the rheostat) to put it at 5v, I have another on my cpu at 12v. The leds still buzz very slightly, but it's not bad at all. I'm very happy with this case finally, after about a week of having to quiet down various components. My power supply has been modded with a zalman 80mm fan at 5v as well, I can literally hear every seek from my seagate drive now which is already really quiet :)

I tried a Coolermaster 120mmx25mm (UV) in front of my HDD....they did not seem to move enough air to make a difference in HDD temps..by putting the Antec tricool and running at med( I do not hear the fan in front of the HDD..too much insulation)..my DD dropped 2C vs Coolermaster

Now placing 2 Coolermaster 120mm in the rear and top lowered case and cpu temps 1-2C(the Antec tricools on low do nothing IMHO

silentpcreview.coms review has tons of configuration tests on that

I will have to give tat a look...quick initial temps seem slight better with blowing air on the videocard and mobo

That vga duct in the P180 is stupidly designed. It sucks air from the back of your case where the psu and case fans are dumping hot air. I just removed the whole thing and taped up the holes on mine.

I agree 100%...I switched it back to suck air out...I thought the idea of recirc the hot air in the back was not a good idea..temps were no better for sure...it was slightly quieter...next the duct will be off

mine is sealed off, then i bought a zalman fan and bracket that you screw to the side and have it blow air on the vid card.

I got the Zalman 80mmx15mm fan as well but in my experience I see no real temp difference with it...though I feel it get a little higher temps blowing on the vid card..as opposed to sucking the air out

I also have the fan set to 5v...to noisy at higher voltage IMHO

Have you really tried it? I have, and I don't appreciat a "fan noise echo." I guess I disagree with the SPCR review on this point. I'm running an 80mm TriCool at 5v, and I just don't hear anything in that area.

When I use the Zalmann 80mmx15mm with mobo 3pin...it spins at 2800+ rpm...I got alot more noise...air movt sound not really fan noise(when blowing out)...when placed on 5v lead on multi connect from Zalmann much quieter...

I found personally the Antec Tricools at 5v make a whine and move no air

So I have 2 Coolermaster fans in rear and top..this better noise and air movement, my only tricool is in front of my HDDs..moves more at medium setting(7v?) and no real noise because the sound is more insulated??

Also my PSU is an OCZ 520w Powerstream...the exhaust air is warm...the PSU is cool not even luke warm to the touch..the lower chamber is cool

I see little or no real temp differences with VGA duct on speedfan...last night after running all day..I open the case the cpu W/HSF-XP90, and my HDD were not hot at all. Even the hdd seem "cool" to the touch...now I know the Neo2 Plat reports cpu temps too high on 1.36B bios(supposedly around 8-10C), my HDD were reading 35/36 on 1 and 36/37C on the other(both are Seagate 200gb 7200.8 with NCQ)

I have heard the Seagate run hotter but they did not feel like there were nearly a 100F(in my older computer I just do not remember what the HDD temps were recently, ie summer time in Tampa FL)

My videocard is a BFG 6800 OC(not GT/Ultra) running at 365/870 unlocked...the has a temp around 55C idle..this is a big heat generator IMHO in my system..I run its fan at lowest speed possible..too noisy

I think compared to my old Antec SX830 with same components listed except using 2 panaflo L1A(very quiet fans) one exhaust, one intake behind my HDD...the reported temps in the P180 appear for the case and HDD 1-2C higher..... cpu..cpu maybe the same or 1C higher

As usually I was so anxious to get the build done I did not recheck temps in my old setup for comparison..so I am going from memory and really did not check after a days use in the summer heat of Florida...

My house is set to 77C..but outer rooms, like my office is warmer as the thermostat is in our "family room"

I'm thinking about replacing the 2 rear 120mm fans in my P180. Now that I think about, they really don't seem to move much air at all on the low setting (and medium is too loud imo). I've heard a couple people mention the coolermaster fans, are there any other good fans that will run quiet at 12v (so I don't need extra wires/pots, etc)? At SPCR they seem to like nexus... where's a good place to buy them?

Using a thin Zalman 80mm fan at 5v, I notice a very loud (comparatively to everything else in my PC) 'wooshing' sound.

I purchased my fans from Jabtech..2 coolermaster(1 blue led, UV purple..did not think I want 2 led fans) and zalman 80mmx15 for 32 shipped...I paid for insurance that was awaste fans were like $7-9 each..excellent service

the Nexus fans is same dBa rating well maybe slightly better than Coolermaster but moves less air based on ratings...

Personally I think the quiet 120mm fans just do not move alot of air..so temps will change very little...not sure it was worth the money..I never used both tricools in rear/top for comparison

I can not compare Nexus but they are like 2x price of Coolermaster which ad 22dbA vs 21dBA on Nexus but move more air for 1/2 price...

Nexus is rated higher for noise but often that is deceiving with a really well built fan as motor may not whine etc

Thanks, nealh, still not sure what I want to do. Think I'll prolly wait until the temps drop down here and see what my temps are before changing anything. These 90 degree days where my system temp is reported at 39C (and proc says 38C, go go Asus temp monitoring!!) just make me nervous :).

hell my temps are worse here in FL...based on MSI temps..and speedfan...open your case and touch the components..HDD reading 35-37..they do not feel that high...

cpu XP is warm nowhere....everything is stable so I am fed up with killing myself....
