VGA/DB15 hot-plug compatible?

Hello everyone,

For the longest time I thought that VGA ports weren't hot-plug compable. So both devices that the VGA cable links needed to be off before you plug one into the other.

But I see people at the university doing it all the time without adverse effects. Can these really be plugged in with both devices on?

Bump.

They're technically not designed for hot-plugging ("plug and play" is the wrong term for this), but I've rarely seen it not work. You're extremely unlikely to damage anything, assuming the devices you're connecting were built in the last 10 years or so.

DVI is a little iffier. There's more synchronization that has to happen between the devices.

Thanks for the advice and terminology correction. 😉 Much appreciated.
