there are a bunch of 8800gt cards coming out with non-ref coolers.

One has a zalman vf1000 with aluminum fins instead of copper. Others have the vf830 which is just a narrower vf1000 with two heatpipes instead of four. Another has a custom coolermaster single pipe in a radial fin array.

Any chance of these coolers making it to retail market as stand alone products?
(I generally prefer aluminum fins to copper for reasons of weight, cost, and ability to shed heat. I read that copper conducts better but aluminum sheds better or equivalently)

bad at best. sorry. The individual companies(i.e. the card manufacturers) that license these special coolers from zalman and coolermaster and arctic cooling actually hold the licenses to the products, not the manufacturer of the cooler so it's unlikely at best that they will come out because by the time the card manufacturer releases the license, if they ever do, the product will be outdated.

EDIT:

your best bet is to keep an eye on ebay and FS/T forums like the one here and hope somebody changes out the cooler or goes water on one of these. You many as well just buy an S1 or S2 as they're teh best price to performance heatsinks on the market right now.

i would, but i'm building a SFF cube OC gaming rig. The video card cooler cant extend too far above the card(ie TR HR03 gt heat pipes wrapping around the edge). so that limits me to double slot coolers with nothing coming over the top. Therefore no accelero or HR03.

my first instinct was to get a evga stock GT and mount a TR V2. but even that may not fit.
