thats the ticket i think, i never Vmodded my 6800GT but when i added a VF700 it didnt improve the overclock one bit, despite bringing the temps down over 20 degrees.

im sure if it ran the same volts as the 6800U's did it would of been a different story, but was unsure the PCB/power circuit could take it as i was informed that the PCB's were different between the GT and U

jeezus these cars are freaking hot......I think the main thing people need to have is a good exhaust fan that will remove heat from the case. That's why I like BTX style cases, the card exhausts heat upwards towards the rear exhaust fan and gets removed from the case quickly.

It is installed correctly and making good contact with the chip and the fan is working (I do know how to install a vga cooler I have 3 vf700-cu's installed on my other PC's). Is it possible for these things to break? I know it is installed correctly as I have removed it twice and verified the thermal compound is fine. Anyone have any ideas? this really sucks. $50 for this thing and now I am stuck as I have the memory sinks installed and will have to remove them to put the X2 back.

sounds odd, i wonder, (bit of a wild shot in the dark) if the heat pipes on your VF900 actually have anything in them? you they got a liquid inside them right? that moves the heat around.....i wonder if yours is defective in that it has nothing in the pipes

just a long shot guess though

Wow, nice temps man. why not try to oc more?

690/800 seems to crash in 3dmark 06 not sure what to do
Get ATI Tool and raise the volts (X18/9 cards have software adjustable voltage options).

I dont know how you can possibly get 53C load with a x1900xtx, unless you live in the north pole or something. I just installed my vf900 today, flashed the card to xtx bios, and during a run or 3dmark06 the highest recorded gpu temp was 81C. That's better than the 92C I got with a zalman vf700, but I'm still confused how other people can be getting such low temps.
Its possible, OCed to 700/820 in Oblivion I load @ 51C Edit: using Thermalright V1 Ultra cooler (its factory compatiable with X18/9 series cards).

Did you use their "memory pad" for the 2 or 3 memory chips that are under the heatsink or ? How are the memory temps/performance with the V1-Ultra?
Also does the fan pull air away or blow it on the cooling fins??
