WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - New developments in the scandal that has been swirling across the country involving the Dept. Of Veterans Affairs.

CBS 12 has uncovered new documents that raise questions about the care veterans have received at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

In a letter to Florida Governor Rick Scott in April, one combat disabled veteran writes quote: "Emergency action is needed. Patients sitting in urine and feces for more than 12 hours. Mold in the rooms. Fruit flies. Employees disappear for hours, no accountability. This is so disquieting. I'd rather work in Iraq."

Another letter to the governor, also in April, makes more accusations about the West Palm BeachVA.

Although the name is blacked out to protect the patient’s privacy, it appears to have been written by the relative of a veteran.

It says quote: "He was abused, mistreated and worse, misdiagnosed at the VA. We took him out against medical advice because we couldn't leave him alone for a minute, get honest answers or even basic dignity for him."

The letter goes on to say: “He passed in tremendous pain. I have called several attorneys to be told that it’s impossible to go after the VA. I am begging you to listen and contact me for solid evidence of abuse and neglect.”

No one from the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach would comment on camera.

They sent us an e-mail, saying their goal is to provide the best quality, safe and effective health care for veterans. My ass it is...

News video here

Christ almighty this is horrible. They have veterans who are very ill sitting in their own feces and urine, in mold infested rooms. This is happening right now and the news broke out on this today.

That's awful, those who serve our country deserve better. Heads should roll over this kind of stuff. This is something we should all be able to agree on, regardless of political ideology.

Actually, I don't agree, and this debate is long overdue for our nation. Not all service is equal, and not all benefits should be either. This is why the VA is swamped - a large percentage of resources are being used taking care of medical issues completely unrelated to service.

I was a reservist. I never got called up, never left the country, never got hurt during training, and was never in any actual danger. I got paid, clothed, and fed for time spent training, and for myself and people like me, I don't think the gov't "owes" us anything more - certainly not unlimited healthcare for life. I'd certainly never want to take VA resources away from vets with actual in-service injuries - that's just a whole different level of sacrifice.

You wouldn't be taking much away from people. From my understanding you'd be basically dead last in the priority list.
