Just curious to see how many veterans served and how many people on AT are still serving!
I salute all of you!

What definition of "veteran" are you using?

The definition all the government agencies are using is that even if you served in the reserves for 20 years, if you were never called to active duty you are not a veteran.

3 years of active duty, or one deployment to a combat zone. I believe that is the qualifications. That being said, I am one.

9.5 years in the Navy, having fun with "Uncle Hymie's" nuclear reactors! 😉

But that was back in my younger, and skinnier, days!

2 years US Army
MOS: 71L Administrative Specialist

13 years Florida Army National Guard
MOS: 13E10, Field Artillery Fire Direction Specialist

Later went to OCS to become an Officer whereupon I became a Field Artillery Officer.

Got out after having 4 different commands of two 8 inch Howitzer units and two MLRS (multiple launch rocket system) units, deployed numerous times both in Saudi in 1990 for Desert Storm and many times in Florida for riots, hurricanes, etc.

I remember whe our CAG moved from the Independence to the Eisenhower when the Ike was brand new I got to take a tour of the engine room. Pretty fascinating stuff. They had a little peephole window we could look into the reactor room through.

Were you in Vietnam?
Did you initially sign up for a four year tour or successive one year tours?
Did they have one year tours back then? I am under the impression they did.

Thanks,
