..."windows could not load the installer for BTW"

what in the WORLD does that mean? i find only results connected to bluetooth installations online.

this happened for me during the instalation of:

Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2
and
Internet Explorer 7 RC1

im so confused! please help me out...

too much fuss with no solution. just reinstalled and started fresh.

this is quite confusing just for general info if anyone knows something it would be neat to have it posted.

thanks.

yea thats what i found...but do you really think that could affect the installation of WMP, or IE7...or any other microsoft software?

Do you have Bluetooth? Sounds like an incompleted installer that triggered again on each successive program installation.

The Windows Installer can get hosed and require repairs at times.

To be more clear about my hypothesis:

1. Some program tried to install BTW software. It never quite worked out right, but the installer never quite cleared out of its mission.

2. Each successive time you used the Installer, it triggered the failed BTW install again.

3. In the words of Star Trek Next Generation, you were stuck in some kind of causality loop.

There is a Windows Installer Cleanup Utility that can cure some ills with that program:

hmm thats definetely possible.

the thing is that makes sense in a diff way (which is understandable) because what i had to do is install a winxp SP2 on a different partition and transfer all the DLLs back to the old one. everything worked! however, certain things had to be reinstalled because obviously registry entries and what not are no longer there.

it makes sense that something went wrong with the BTW but i still have no idea how that could affect every other installation -- thats the only part that puzzles me.

Why didn't you just do a "repair install" of XP on the old installation? Transferring dll files doesn't sound like a safe way to go about it, plus XP has built in protection against just dumping dll's in the system folder. You need to get rid of all the old ones in the Dllcache folder, too, or they could go right back in to replace what you put in manually.

well it worked for wat i needed it to do for that time. i got all the backup files i needed and now i have 3 partitions.

one 30GB for windows
one 30GB for (soon to be) SUSE Linux 10.1
one 40GB for anything non-windows or software related (songs, pics, docs, etc.)

if anyone has some info on how to go about PROPERLY dual booting XP and SUSE Linux 10.1, i would REALLY appreciate it because ive looked for so long, and i seem to be getting no where and its getting annoying.

thanks.
