Very weird blue screen problem with one stick of memory.

When my computer is turned off for 6+ hours and I cold boot, I get a blue screen when windows tries to start up. I've narrowed the problem down to one of the two memory sticks. When the computer has been turned off for a long time and the problem stick is removed, Windows boots up without a blue screen. The weird part after I restart, the computer will boot into Windows with the problem stick and does not display any odd behavior while running (even when the problem stick is only being used). Also, the computer has to be off for a long time (usually 6+ hours) for the blue screen error to happen again.

I'm using a Gigabyte ep35-ds3r and have tried using different memory slots but it still happens. This happens in Vista and 7. I've tested the memory and it tests fine. It's not that big of a deal, just an annoyance. What could be causing this problem?

If you can demonstrate that a given stick of RAM is bad, get it replaced and move on. Component level failure analysis is for Engineers.

Also, you don't give any other details on your system, your power supply, the age of any components, etc. This problem could be caused by some odd and unlikely combination of either internal system events or problems or some external aspect of your electrical delivery infrastructure. There is simply not enough evidence or information to make an informed guess and I can tell you that even in person, it would be very difficult.
