Very very strange problem

I have an Athlon 1.4, Epox 8K7A, 512MB DDR, Geforce4 Ti4400.

One morning, I turn on my computer, and right from the BIOS post, instead of all white text, I see a rainbow of colors. I'm not talking about random colors all over the screen - I'm talking about the actual text is no longer white - they're all different colors. When it starts booting into Windows 2000, it halts with an error that is unreadable - because there are garbage characters all over the screen. I turn off the computer, and cold boot it again...this time, instead of colors, I see garbage characters. I go into setup. Garbage characters again. Now, I've rebooted my computer numerous times, sometimes I get colors, sometimes I get garbage characters, and sometimes it looks normal; but every time, it halts seconds into the Windows 2000 boot, always with a mix of garbage text and actual text - unreadable.

I did nothing to the computer the night before - installed no new hardware or software, didn't physically move the computer - nothing.

Two days later, my computer is still like this. My 1st thought was that the OS is corrupt - maybe a boot or system file corrupted. But then, why the jumbled characters during post? I also went into setup and checked the vitals - CPU temp, voltages, etc. Everything was ok.

Any ideas?

Could be a bad ram chip on the Video card.
Are you overclocking the Video?

Try clearing the CMOS and reseating the RAM to rule those out.
If it doesn't clear up, somebody will be RMA'n a video card.

I'm not OCing my video card. I will try those things. But would that cause Win2K to halt during boot?
