Ordered a Canon XTi Rebel via Amazon on Sunday late afternoon (12th), chose the free shipping that comes with it.

See tracking below (read from bottom):

November 13, 2007 02:23:00 AM WATERTOWN MA US Out for delivery
November 13, 2007 01:01:00 AM WATERTOWN MA US Arrival Scan
November 13, 2007 12:01:00 AM CHELMSFORD MA US Departure Scan
November 12, 2007 06:30:51 PM US Carrier notified to pick up package

WTF. Watertown is like a 20 min drive from my home in Boston. I ordered Sunday afternoon and it's arriving on Tuesday (Today) afternoon? Damn. Thank god for globalization and localized shipping of goods.

Good stuff! Why bother for more expensive and rush shipping? Wow.

UPS destroys your stuff. Fedex is too damn slow. DHL is lightning.

USPS - Fast + little damage + price is ok
UPS - DAMAGE - you get what you pay for
FedEX - Ok
DHL - Expensive

I placed an order from the Apple store on Friday, it shipped from China on Saturday, and was at my door on Monday morning at 9:00 AM. Considering the website said it wouldn't even ship until Monday, I have to say I'm impressed.

And yeah, UPS blows. A guy last week was throwing my packages (which weren't light, about 10 pounds) off the truck onto the concrete. I've had packages mysteriously disappear (they'd show up as out for delivery, and never show up), and numerous packages that were out for delivery (as scheduled) on a given day not arrive until the next day.

I've never shipped anything via DHL, but I've had a few things shipped to me. Fedex, in my experience, is ass raping expensive. Especially considering how pathetically slow they are. This is just my experience with them, though. You're right, though. USPS really is kind of a happy medium. I forgot about them.

Amazon also uses DHL by the way. I swear I've had one of the orders from there come with FedEx, but I can't seem to find that one.

When Amazon only used their warehouse in Sparks it was awesome, anything I ordered got there next day. :D

Good to see that their "long free ship time" thing is likely going down. I stopped using it after having a book go out of stock by the time they got around to shipping it, and they said it would be another three months before it got back in.

Whatever man. I've shipped tons of stuff with all carriers and never had a problem with any of them. UPS has been great.

I've seen a couple damaged packages, but it's because they were not properly packed.

When I worked in the shipping department of an audio company, I can tell you that UPS was a nightmare. I'd say UPS destroyed about four packages a month, usually mangling the box beyond recognition. Never had any problems with Fedex or DHL.

My experience:
USPS: takes a bit longer for larger packages, have to wait in long lines to ship
UPS: more likely to be damaged
Fedex: A little more expensive, but faster with better service
DHL: A complete PITA to deal with in my area, have about a half hour window to pick things up from their office because they always deliver when nobody is home.

I tend to go with Fedex ground for most things these days. But when it comes to shipping letters, you can't beat a 41 cent stamp :)

And if there's anything worse, they frequently use UPS to ship items to your local Post Office, who brings it out to your house. Even less accountability/trackability that way. Like UPS tracking means anything in the first place.

I ordered from Amazon Japan (which used only DHL) and picked the cheapest shipping (I think $5). I got it in 3 days.

I prefer UPS over any other carrier.

I would rather not order something and go without for my whole life rather than have it shipped by DHL.

i've never had problems with ups
i used to ship at least 3 things per day with ups, and another 2 or 3 with usps
usps had a few issues, mostly inconsistencies with delivery speed

fedex screwed me over on several occasions

dhl delivered a 100lb heavy bag to me a couple weeks ago, they left it in the middle of my driveway (1.5 car lengths from the garage door). I was home, they didn't even knock

Cheaper than $572 shipped (body only)? I did some research and it seems Amazon currently has the best, hassle-free flat $572 with free shipping for a XTi right now.
