Will going over my credit line by $20 hurt my credit score? I think I've done this twice.

Since you will be above utilization probably. It was also cost you OTL fees.

If you're approaching anywhere near your credit line, then you are destroying your credit score. The utilization on that card will be astronomical (I don't think it will show past 100%) and overall utilization across all lines may be very high as well (depending on the relative size of the maxed line to all of your lines).

Why would you go over a credit line? Accident? Perhaps you should get a credit increase. You may also be irresponsible with your credit use. In that case, you should think about staying away from credit cards altogether.

I'm not irresponsible with the credit card (only spend what I have). I didn't think going $20 over the line (measly $1,000 line) would be a big deal since I just promptly pay it off. Also, I never received any OTL fees or warnings.

I need to investigate this matter further.

I would highly recommend reading your credit cards disclosures and terms and conditions.

which begs the question why ask the question in these forums if all your going to do is disagree with those who attempt to answer your question?

Your time would be better spent contacting the proper person by phone and asking...would it not??

Won't be any worse than simply maxing it out, and even then, the score will only drop until the balance comes down again.

"Only spend what I have" better mean you pay it every month.
And if you pay it every month your credit line should be higher.

Something doesn't add up here.
