Very techinical problem, please give some help

Heres the run down...

Earlier in the week I brought my friends Pc over to my house and Installed a new vid card.
Downloaded steam, downloaded Cs:s, got all my settings in there, go to connect to a server, the list populates, then if I hit refresh all the servers go unavailable and I cannot even halfway connect into a server or it gets timedout.

Did all the port forwarding rules on my cable modem after reding up on my current problem, still no go. Even listed my Pc's Ip under DMZ and still cannot connect.

Did a fresh install of Xp today, reinstalled all the steam files and Cs:s and 5 hours later when its ready, the same problem remains.

Tried dmz again on my assigned manual static ip under net config and reran, still no go.

The funny thing is, 2 weeks ago I downloaded and installed Cs:s on my girlfriends laptop just to see if it would run it, It did, not very well, but it actually connected to servers, but on a wireless connecton in my home on same network..

Anyone know what the hell is going on, Ive been trying to play for almost 2 weeks now with no action, PLEASE HELP

Also, would replacing my modem to a basic modem, would it help any..

Its a netgear wireless gateway 4 ports cg814w

Also, if my modem is set to be a dhcp and I only have one pc right now can I manually (myself) change it to a static ip on the modem and expect any changes

I downloaded and installed Xfire, and 3rd party server tool used to connect to game servers, when I did it actually let me connect to the servers a few times but now my problem is happening with that too

Yes you can.

I'm not sure about your problem though. Can you browse websites with that machine?

Bypass the router (unless it's a Modem/Router combo) to see if it's a connection issue, or a router issue. At this point, I doubt it's a machine issue...
