very specific question regarding 6800GT

My rig atm:

2.4C
9600 Pro
1.5GB RAM

In World of Warcraft, I get about 8-10fps when standing in the middle of a town with the following settings:

1600x1200
maxed textures, viewable distance, AF, and everything else in-game (distance polygon reducing also disabled)
VSync with triple buffering (to my knowledge, this means better visual quality)
maxed out AA in Catalyst CC

...basically, everything maxed out at a 1600x1200 res without any full-screen glow effect

Now my question is, if I changed my rig to the following...

3.2C
6800GT
1.5GB RAM (or even 1GB) << this shouldn't really matter

...could I run the maxed-out settings described above at 50fps+ through the game, including battles? I think 50fps (and 60fps in some areas) is realistic, as WoW isn't exactly a demanding game by today's standards (it's no Far Cry).

It's a very specific question, but I thought someone might know...

ugh... I don't upgrade often, and seeing as this is the game I'll be playing most, I thought I should get a sense of how well the card performs...

How long until Nvidia's/ATI's next generation cards?

you will find that very helpful

What really KILLS the performance is the view distance. Very CPU limited. Your intel 3.2 is nothing compared to the 4000+ they use in testing, and their framerate sucks with the view distace on more then 3/4 the way.
like i said, it is obvious that the view distance is CPU limited though because when they increase the res there is no performance impact.
If you get the 3.2C and the 6800Gt, you will diffenately be able to play WoW on high settings. you cant enable AA and shaders at the same time though, keep that in mind.

You can use 4x aa and 8x af no problem. I've played the game myself on my 21" at 2048x1536 with 4x aa and 8x af with no problems. With a 6800 gt the game will pretty much always be cpu limited even with full details on.

yeah, thanx for that bytor... even at 2048x1536 4x 8x!!! good thing i got my winnie runnin at 2.655GHz 😀😀
i want this game so bad...but i need some cash, and its out of stock EVERYWHERE!! i was in the open beta tho, and it pwn3d.

Well all I can say is, I wish my CPU was faster. I just didn't want to be bothered to change the mobo and everything for an A64, but now I'm kinda wishing I had. I'm running a 3.2C as mentioned.

😕

So that's why my game was looking like crap~ lol 😀
shaders as in the glow-effect, right?

Yeah, I believe so~

I had them on and 4xAA & 8xAF on and it was looking jaggy as hell. Soon as I turned the shaders off it was all nice and sharp again 😀

It's really a shame that the glow-effect can't work in conjunction with AA. It's really a beautiful effect and adds to the immersion of the game, but IMHO is ruined by the horrid jaggies.
