Very Small PCMCIA Network Adaptor

Hi,

I want to add 802 wireless in the form of a PCMCIA card.

However they all seem to have bits of plastic sticking out.

Anyone know which is the smallest or one that has a pull out arial.

Cheers.

They all stick out, it's the antenna packaging. Might want to look into a mini-pci card and route your own antenna lead through your case.

The notebook is way too small. It has to be a PCMCIA card. Surely someone could make a smaller version with a pull out ariel.

Damn.

One other question, I have a local network, 9 comps with a 30 port switch. If I want to allow wireless devices to connect to this network what hardware do I need.

Eg is it a wireless router ?

A Wireless Access Point would probably work better for your network That way, you don't need to worry about the router messing anything up.

What's your model of notebook? If it's fairly recent, it will have a Mini-PCI slot, which would be your best bet for wireless. Let us know and it will be pretty easy to find.

I would second a WAP but if all you have access to is a Wireless Router than use that but configure it to just passthrough the lan traffic not hand out ip address or anything.
