very slow when jumping back to desktop

Hi,

there is/should be a button in the taskbar shortcut, where u can minimize everything to jump back to the desktop.(quick launch)

when i do this, it takes quite awhile to load all the icons in desktop. one by one...

This is a celeron 2.66, 1g ram, Geforce 5200 128mb. with 32 icons on the desktop.
is it really that slow?
this is an office use computer, twins but the other one is not using at all.


just installed nvidia 77.77 driver, but still the same.

Well, those 32 icons aren't helping the load time any.

I would venture a guess in that the computer may have some sort of spyware/adware on it?

If it sounds like the hdd is working hard when the desktop icons are loading, I believe it is probably spyware sucking up your memory and leaving your hdd to die loading everything.

If the hdd is not working hard, maybe roll back the drivers?

What have you got running the background? Any anti-virus or similar utilities?

iexplore.exe
icqlite.exe
kmmsg.exe
winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
explorer.exe

and that's it.

Did you try running Ad-ware, Spybot, R-wipe & Clean or CCleaner and a good anti-virus? I would start with those, also try to get rid some of the icons..put em in Quick Launch.
