Very slow transfer rates

As long as I can remember I've always had very slow transfer rates and today I am going to ask why. All different kinds of hardware and setups too. The latest that has me miffed was a 524mb transfer or backup of my emails. Never went above 5.14mb transfer rate from my Vertex 100g LE to my Samsung F3 1tb.

Could it be because of the file sizes? its very early in the morning so excuse this stupidity.

I know. I have the same problem. I would like to know how to fix this problem without having to spend too much money on it. I don't watn to buy expensive components

I always get slower transfer rate with smaller files. If say I have 500MB worth of small sized music or picture files in hundreds or thousands it would take me longer to transfer and slower transfer rate compared to 500MB worth of a single video file. It is based on my observation when I transfer files from my external to my internal HDD.
