I want to start Folding on my CPU, and I went to Stanfords site for it and downloaded the .exe graphics version. Like the BIGger better one. I different icon that normal shows up for it on my desktop, and I click it, up comes a Microsoft Office Developers Installation thing, and next it says I need a component update. There is a pic below. My question is why in the world is this related to Office? It says its called Gkware, and I want to get rid of this crap right away. Thanks. I click the exe and Office install comes up, and then goes away and nothing ever pops up. Thats shown in first pic. Second and Third pics show my frustration with this filetype!

Thanks. I just want to be able to get these files to install and work! Thanks again.

I don't know the answer to your questions because I am not currently running folding at home, but Narzy did a GUI setup guide that you can find here

Hopefully this will help you out :) If you need some more help you might want to talk with Narzy, RustyNale, ChuckWits or some of the others who have been folding.

Good luck and welcome to the TeAm :D

I downloaded the newest version on there website and its weird. Its like my computer doing this. It associates that file with GKWARe self extractor? Then it tried to open a Office Developer Installation? Then it goes away. I searched all my reg, and files+folders on this pc, and nothing could find GKware. Why is it doing this? Its like a file association/type issue.Thanks.

Are you trying to run the screensaver? That's what the executable looks like in your images.

If you really are trying to run the screensaver instead of the GUI client, you cannot do it from XP with the first package listed on the download page. There is a separate screensaver download for NT/2000/XP.

If you want to run the GUI, it is winFAH.exe, and the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Folding@Home

No you see I downloaded the GUI version, and its on my desktop. I try to run that, INSTALL it, and I cant even get past or into the install of it. Some Office Developer crap comes up, and then it just loads once, and hits me back to DsktopT. Thanks.

Ok, I don't want to be a pain in the butt, but what is the name of the file that you downloaded? And you are running XP correct?

I just ask because I downloaded the new GUI distribution when you first posted (I normally run the CLI client) and I had no problems installing on XP.

The name of the file for the 2.19 GUI client distribution is Folding@Home2.EXE. I happened to also download the 2.15 NT/2000/XP screensaver distribution, and the its name is Folding@Home2_Screensaver.EXE, the same name as in your IMG2.jpg. Are you sure you got the right file? :)

Go here to find out more about GKWare. It looks to be a new type of extractor like winzip...

*edit* If the gkware isn't working for you, try using winzip to manually open the folder instead of the built-in extractor?
