Very peculiar explorer.exe problem.

My explorer.exe is f'ed up somehow. It works fine, I can rename and move and delete files at normal speed.

If I rename a file, explorer will become unresponsive for a while. But if I open up another window and go to the same directory, the folder is already renamed.

Pop-up windows (deleting, moving, recycling) take a long time to go away even though the file is deleted, moved, or recycled almost instantly.

The problem started today. I had my drive laid out like this
Partition A: Windows
Partition B: Applications.

I uninstalled all the applications, deleted Partition B, resized Partition A, and reinstalled all my applications. Then the problem started.

Firefox is also unresponsive when opening pages. (after reinstall) Safe mode didn't help.

hmm.

have you updated any software recently? perhaps the update can cause problems. Perhaps a new shell extension was added for explorer.exe .. behind your back, in the update.

shell extension viewer: http://www.google.com/search?&...l%20extension%20viewer

or you installed some new software a day or 2 ago and just now the problem begins to manifest itself.

I did add a lot of shell extensions to explorer... I wonder if they are slowing it down.

Shell extension do fit the symptoms pretty well.

Use the suggested extension viewer to find any possibly culprits. As a brute force fix you can also use a system restore point from a couple days back.

The first link from google says I have 290... Looks like I'm gonna have to do some digging.

Screw this, I just found a nice alternative Windows File Manager. Too bad PCManFM doesn't work on Windows.
