I'm loookin for someone with any firsthand knowledge about the mating/egg laying/hatching habits of african geese. There's a pair here at the home we just bought last year. And she has laid about 18 eggs already this year, and it's still very cool here in PA. She's not sitting on them tho, so I assume they'll never hatch. Last spring, she laid eggs all over the place too. But she didn't stay with them long enough and other wild animals got the eggs.
So I'm hoping someone with some experience can give me some insight.

I don't like geese anymore. I was attacked by a pair of them at a game farm once. It sounds funny but it scared the hell out of me!

Geese can be wicked when they're pissed. They're also noisy, dirty, annoying bastards. When I lived in town our neighbors had one as a pet. It ran around everywhere in a diaper to keep it from crapping all over the place. It was a good watchdog, though, if anybody came near it would raise enough hell to wake the neighbors (us) up.

We have a few Africans around the park here. They will generally take about 5 to 7 days to lay all of them, after she has laid them all she will begin to sit on them. If you count the days from when she begins sitting on them they should hatch in about 28 days. If you remove them she will just lay more, if you want to make sure they don't hatch just spray them with wesson oil every couple of days for the first 2 weeks.

I don't mind if they hatch, after all, we have a farm now ;)

My main concern is that she seems to be leaving them completely unattanded. This is only her second "season", so maybe she just doesn't have the hang of it all yet? I guess the question would be... is it ok that she's not sitting on them yet? It's still pretty cold, so I'm worried about the safety of the eggs.

Thanks

And I'll give google a check too.
