VERY ODD win 7 problem: repeated keystrokes and fast blinking cursor

I am building HTPC. asus m4a785-m with am2+ 2.6 ghz dual core chip, 2 gb OCZ ram and 1.5 tb drive.

Installing x86 windows 7 ultimate final on brand new drive. During the install, I notice that the busy blue O symbol spins REALLY fast. When I type (either with wired or wireless kb), it will type 6-7 letters in a row with normal keyboard pressure. The only way to get 1 key type is to push the kb extremely fast. I've tested and confirmed kb works on other computer w/o issue.

I've gone into control panel and adjusted cursor blinking rate, turned on filter keys and adjusted delay, and even gone into registry to adjust rates in there, but no luck. I've also reformatted and reinstalled and updated BIOS w/o success.

Installation with XP disk is normal w/o the same issues.

Any ideas??? I am completely stumped. Maybe I should burn the ISO image with a program like alcohol instead of using win7 built in ISO burning option??

I'm having the EXACT same problem with a ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO. It seems to be something jacked up with the internal timer. Did you ever resolve this?

Thanks!

I was stumped too. With the same problem like you I had a problem with mouse. I couldn't start any icon of any program or applications from Desktop, and from Win Explorer too. Just option to rename after I start twice to clicking. Motherboard is ASUS M4A785D-M Pro. Also change and update BIOS but nothing happened, Everything going too too fast. So any idea or this series "Windows 7 Ready" 🙄 Motherboard have the same problem?!

Win XP SP3 work fine.

When you installed Windows 7, did you also install the AMD dual-core optimizer?

Also, Windows Vista/7 uses your system's HPET timer, if it contains one. If installing the dual-core optimizer doesn't resolve the problem, the disabling the HPET time in your BIOS.

Nope! Just automatic update, and after that everything gone wrong. After update and restart. Before restart everything were OK.

I was actually responding to the OP. For your problem, check your mouse settings and make sure the double-click interval isn't set to some ridiculously low setting.

Sorry but I had all this problems too and mouse problem have similarity with that, but I don't know in which directions.

i had the same problem yesterday with my asus m4a785-m and i solved the problem by installing the new bios version 1006. before i had version 0602.
so i think its actually not a windows 7 problem. it is a problem with the mainboard, so maybe someone could move the topic to AnandTech Forums > Hardware and Technology > Motherboards
