Very odd standby problem

Well, my computer goes into standby fine, and seems to come out ok. But, the first sound it makes, the sound card goes crazy and starts giving off huge bursts of staticky sound. I am using win2k sp2, and a strange Conexant Riptide modem/sound combo card. Anyone know what I can do to get rid of this god awful sound?
